    MCPS Technology for New Elementary Teachers

    • Active Directory

      The Active Directory login allows you to access the files in your H:drive from any computer in your school

    • Filters

      The internet filter:

      • Student accounts are filtered for their safety per federal law (CIPA).
      • The teacher filter is less restrictive and designed to maximize educational use of the internet.

      If you have logged into a computer that students can access (such as in the library), you must restart the computer when you are finished in order to clear the filter. It is important that you not share your username and password with anyone.

      * Using any mobile device (iPad, smart phone) connected through the MCPS-Mobile wireless network will be filtered.  School issued laptops connected through the MCPS wireless network will be filtered for teacher use once you log in.

      • MOODLE

        MCPS uses two different Moodle servers, and each has a separate login (username and password.) 

        1. MOODLE for Professional Development is used for training, professional development, and beginning of the year mandatory health trainings.

        2. MOODLE for Instruction is used by teachers to provide online resources for students, including a syllabus, rules and policies, teacher contact information, and course materials such as handouts, website links, instructions, quizzes, readings, forums etc.  If you are interested in setting up a Moodle course for your classes, contact your ITRT to set it up and create a login for you.

          The Courseware folder can be found on the desktop of all school computers.  This folder contains shortcuts to commonly used programs available to you and your students.

          • Work Order System

            If you have a problem with a computer or technology equipment, a work order must be submitted.   To submit a work order please see your school's technology contact. The work order system is used to provide equitable repairs.  Your technician works from the work order system. 

            • Email/Distribution Lists

              • To access your email at school, please use the Groupwise icon in the task bar on your computer.
              • To access your email from home go to webmail.mcps.org
              • If you want to sync school email to your mobile device/cell phone, contact your ITRT to set it up.
            • Google at MCPS

               

            • ERO (Electronic Registrar Online)- Staff Development

            • TalentEd

              Talent Ed is the website where your goals and evaluations/observations will be added and stored.

              You will receive an email from Talent Ed (through HR) to set up a password.

            • Internet Safety

              Virginia Public Schools are mandated by the state DOE to integrate Internet Safety into the K-12 curriculum. The DOE recommends using teachable moments whenever possible.

            • Interactive Achievement (onTRAC)

              onTRAC by Interactive Achievement is an integrated testing system that emulates the state standardized testing environment and provides instant test results. 

              Components:

              • Expandable database of questions formatted to the SOL guidelines
              • Exam Builder feature helps create custom tests, including Benchmark Tests, Unit Tests, and Quizzes
              • Administer tests online with iTest or offline with scannable student answer sheets
              • Instant results reported by subject, sub-category, class, teacher, school, or division

              This assessment tool is used for benchmark testing in Grades 3-8 for Math and English.

              Students access tests created in onTRAC by clicking on the For Students/Students menu of their school's homepage and selecting iTest from the drop-down menu of choices.
